As an author who loves her fictional characters with a passion I’m always thrilled when book clubs pick one of my novels to read. I’m also always happy to help in any way I can to make the experience an enjoyable one.
Feel free to contact me with any thoughts, questions or suggestions, but for now here are some suggested book questions to get you started. I think they work well with each of my books.
How does the setting figure as a character in the story?
Would you have liked to live in this time period?
How do the changes in location affect the characters?
What themes did the author emphasize throughout the novel? What do you think she’s trying to say?
What events hint at the author’s worldview?
Why do you think the author wrote this?
Who are the main characters?
Did the characters seem real to you?
Can you relate to their trials?
Who is your favorite character and why?
Who was your least favorite character?
How do the characters change over time and why?
What moral choices must the characters make?
Would you have made different choices?
Do any of the characters’ actions make you uncomfortable? How would you act in a similar situation?
How would you characterize the tone of this book?
How did this book affect you?
Did this book lead you to a better understanding about yourself or others?
Did this book challenge your assumptions about faith?
What questions does this story bring up about grace and forgiveness?
Are you happy with the ending of the story? Why or why not?
